And I Do love applique after all...

I never really cared for applique on my clothes or accessories, not sure why, but it never really struck my fancy. Well, things are bound to change, I have had my new sewing machine now for several months and I explore all the nice extra features on a weekly basis. So, the satin stitch was begging to surround a handmade applique. I love mushrooms, owls and wolves as appliques if any at all.
I decided to try on a pocket first...and woohoo, I really love it. so, I guess I will have more coming soon.

Ponca Ribbon Shirt for the PowWow

Here is a picture of a traditional ribbon shirt that I did.
The main event for our family is the gourd dance where most male family members participate. Officially this Pow Wow is called the Otoe-Missouria Annual Encampment.
You don't see many floral ribbon shirts, most of them are solid with different ribbon colors attached to match the rest of the regalia, but here the wearer requested a floral pattern with lavender and green ribbons.
I don't sew men shirts very often, so I am pretty proud of the outcome. Especially since I didn't have a pattern and just drafted it with provided measurements.
I wish I had taken more pictures of the different dancing events, but helping with the meals and chatting with the family had priority. Camera forgotten..., I just sit, watch & enjoy. It was a rather hot day, but with some nice cool breezes, how lucky we were in July.

Apronistas here we come

I discovered my love for aprons...not necessarily the utility BBQ apron, but the playful vintage look apron. Especially in patchwork and in earthy colors, just for fun, practicality or to look different than everyone else. So, I have searched the internet for patterns (besides the half apron that can be done without pattern). Luckily I have found a lovely pattern at a local thrift store, saves me time and money. anyway, just wanted to share an apron I did recently...and plan to have many more to come.

I rather sew when it's hot...

After the rain stopped (20 days of heavy rain in a row, a record for Northern Central Oklahoma) it has really gotten hot and humid. Feels weird to even think about working with yarn...smiles, but I have finished a few simple berets. I haven't listed them yet. Even though I don't love Ebay as much as I did in the past I thought it was time to get a new listing up. I made this cute blue patchwork skirt yesterday and finished it today. I am really happy with the way it came out, I used a recycled India dress ruffle for the bottom. I think about incorporating upcycling into my crafting techniques, so many dresses and skirts that I own (and don't wear). So, upcycling will be a new word in my book.

I love to work with Hemp Wool

and have uploaded a great new dread tam to my website.
Hopefully I will find more good internet buying sources for hemp goods. Nothing beats a great sustainable natural fibre product.
